2008 CAI-SD Board of Directors Bios
Sharyn Edwards, CCAM®, AMS®, President,
is a senior urban community manager with Merit Property Management. She
has been involved with the San Diego Chapter of CAI for six years. Sharyn
currently serves on the Monte Carlo Committee and Day At the Races Committee. Sharyn
is the recipient of CAI’s 2004 Rising Star Manager of the Year Award. She
was also named Committee Member of the Year for both Billiards Committee and
Day at the Races Committee in 2005 and 2006. In 2006 and 2007 she was presented
with CAI’s Member of the Year Award. |

Patee Barta-Spurlock, President-Elect, is the
co-chair of the Legislative Action Committee Roundtable and is a delegate to
the California Legislative Action Committee (CLAC). Barta-Spurlock
is with Roy Palacios Insurance Agency, Inc., an “elite” company designated
by Farmers Insurance. She joined the company in January 2007 after her
marriage in 2006 and after a 17-year job with a well-respected law firm in San
Diego. Barta-Spurlock is a multi-chapter member and has been awarded numerous
awards in both San Diego and Greater Inland Empire Chapters where she is a former “Hall
of Fame” recipient. |

Rick Salpietra, Vice President,
is an attorney and Vice-President of Community Associations Institute, San Diego
Chapter. He is a member of the College of Community
Association Lawyers (CCAL). He was a member of the Board of Directors from
1999 – 2002, and president in 2003. He has served on the Monte Carlo,
Membership, Magazine, Day at the Races, Billiards, and Awards Banquet committees,
as well as the CAI National Conference Committee. He has also been a Director
of the Baker-Dolnick Education Foundation. In 2004, Mr. Salpietra was awarded
the CAI–San Diego Chapter's Sam Dolnick Lifetime Achievement Award for
his extensive service to the Chapter.
Mr. Salpietra’s
law firm’s emphasis is community association law, real estate and construction
law, and mold related cases. He is also a licensed architect in the States
of California, Nevada and Florida, and is a licensed general contractor in California. He
has authored several articles and presented seminars on community association
law, mold litigation and construction related issues in California and Texas. His
firm is located in Rancho Santa Fe, California. |

Cyndi Koester, Secretary, is the Assistant Vice President for So. CA for Community
Association Banc. She joined Community Association Banc in January 2005. Prior
to joining Community Association Banc, Cyndi served as Director of Membership
for California Association of Community Managers, Inc. (CACM), where her duties
included scheduling and overseeing education and certification programs, membership
relationship services, instructor and liaison to the Professional Standards Committee. Cyndi
has been involved in the CID industry since 1981. She has been a portfolio
and on-site manager. In addition, she was the general manager for an Irvine
based medium size management firm.
Cyndi is involved with CAI and CACM. In addition to serving on the Board
of Directors for the Coachella Valley & San Diego Chapter she serves at the
Chairperson of the Programs & Expo Committee, Coachella Valley Chapter;
Magazine Chairperson, San Diego Chapter; Education Chairperson, Orange County
Chapter; and Expo Chairperson, Inland Empire Chapter. She also serves on
the Education & Ambassador Committee for CACM. Cyndi has been the recipient
of awards from the San Diego Chapter in 2006 & 2007, Inland Empire Chapter
2006 and Coachella Valley Chapter 2007. Cyndi has earned her CCAM, CMCA,
AMC, PCAM designations. |

Chris Hodge, PCAM, Treasurer, is President of Elite Community Management
in Rancho Bernardo and has been involved in community management since 1987.
Chris has served on various chapter committees throughout his many years of involvement,
including the CLAC Committee, Managers Breakfast Committee and Membership Committee.
He served as the Chapters President in 2002, and received his PCAM in 2008. |

Dave Abrams has been the on-site General Manager for the 1240-acre
Fairbanks Ranch Association in Rancho Santa Fe since 1996, overseeing a
staff of 33 employees. With an educational and work background as a
City Planner, Dave represented the Association for several years as
their “Planner” prior to becoming General Manager. Dave’s interests
include tennis, movies, theatre, walking and collecting Pez candy
dispensers. He lives in La Jolla with wife, Joyce, and their dog
Elwood. They have a son, Matt, a graduate of UC Santa Barbara. |

Ric Crisp is the Business Developer for Landscape Development, Inc. He
has been in the landscape maintenance industry since 1976 and an active member
in the San Diego chapter of CAI for eleven years. Ric has been part the
golf committee for the past five years and co-chaired the golf committee in 2006
and 2007. Four out of the past five years he has served on the Monte Carlo
committee. He is active in his community while serving on the La Mesa Church
of Christ Board of trustees. Being a wine enthusiast is one of Ric’s
passions, second only to watching a good baseball game. |
